Don't Move On, Gaza is Still Bleeding

The Georgetown community seems to have moved on. The outrage and care that once surrounded the Palestinian cause on this campus has faded. It’s as if it was just another passing trend—something to care about for a moment before returning to normal life, to classes, to routines. But Gaza is still suffering and going through another phase of genocide. It is heartbreaking to witness how little the community seems to feel the weight of what so many Palestinians are enduring.
It’s frustrating to have to keep speaking up, only for it to fall on deaf ears; to keep reminding people, to keep calling out classmates and faculty who refuse to boycott, who go on with their days as if nothing is happening. It feels like no one cares, like we are collectively minimizing the sheer scale of this catastrophe, this genocide. And I am guilty of that too—of letting myself get caught up in my studies, my work, the everyday distractions that make it easy to momentarily forget. With so much happening, it’s hard to stay focused on one thing all the time. But that doesn’t mean we can let ourselves become careless. We need to do better, to keep working harder, to always speak up. We need to keep talking about Palestine, praying for Palestine, and boycotting. Silence is not an option.
62,614 human beings dead, murdered. Can you comprehend this number? Does that number not bother you anymore? How are we allowing ourselves to go through our days without thinking about the massacres happening right now?
We are living in a bubble of privilege—one where we can simply turn off our phones and make the genocide disappear with a click. But do the images of dead children not haunt you? Do the sounds of the screams of parents and the cries of children not pierce through? How can anyone be so numb, so detached from this suffering?
For a campus that prides itself on justice and political engagement, it’s disappointing to see those values not being translated into words or actions.
